Meet the Makers

Angelo Puglisi – Ballandean Estate

Widely recognised as the pioneer of Queensland’s wine industry, Angelo has spent a lifetime shaping the Granite Belt into one of Australia’s premier cool-climate wine regions. Founder of Ballandean Estate, Angelo’s vision, innovation and dedication have helped establish generations of award-winning wines and a thriving regional wine industry.

The Folly Truffles

Ben and Maple Egerton moved to The Folly in Ballandean in 2011 to manage the family farm and help turn a long-held family dream of growing truffles into reality. After years spent learning about truffles, trees, soil and the Granite Belt’s unique growing conditions, the family planted their first 450 trees in 2016.

In 2020, that work produced The Folly’s first black truffles. Today, the truffière is carefully nurtured year-round, with trained dogs searching for perfectly ripe truffles during the winter harvest.
